Before you call

• Stay out of standing water until basement power is off at a breaker you can reach from a dry spot.
• Stop the source if you can: close the main water valve for a pipe or appliance leak, or check the sump pump.
• If dark water is coming up a floor drain, stop using water in the house. It may be sewage.
• Never run a gas pump or generator indoors or near windows.
• Photograph the water, walls, floors, and damaged items before moving anything.
